Counselling / Psychotherapy
We have experienced therapists from several therapeutic approaches including Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, Gestalt, Transpersonal, and Core Process. Although these styles may vary all our counsellors work with an essentially holistic and client centred focus; and all therapists are members of a recognised body and work to within their code of ethics.
Some counsellors/psychotherapists have areas of specific interest, experience and skill. It is important that prospective clients have sufficient information to choose the model and counsellor that best suits their needs. You may not be sure whether counselling is for you or which therapist will best meet your needs. In order to help you make an informed choice, please see our list of practitioners with the services offered, approach, qualifications and accreditation details.
Person Centred Counselling
Person Centred Counselling is about being understood and accepted as you try to make sense of your experience. Due to our own history our thoughts, feelings and emotions will be unique to each one of us and consequently our solutions will be uniquely different too. You are the expert in your life and the counsellor the person who journeys with you along your unique pathways as you find ways to move forward more wholly.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy/Counselling
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy/Counselling works with the client-therapist interaction as a means of coming to understand more about the roots of modes of being and patterns of behaviour. This requires rigorous listening to clients to focus on underlying concerns and on the inner self-awareness that acts as a basis for personal change and development.
Gestalt Therapy
Gestalt Therapy is a present centred therapy which focuses on the individual in relation to her/his context. Each of us has a unique history of experience, shaping who we are and how we relate to others. Gaining awareness of how we are in the present helps us become more aware of actions and choices we are making in our lives. With increasing awareness we can be clearer about how we are and what we are responsible for in our relationships with others.
Transpersonal Psychology
Transpersonal Psychology stands at the threshold between psychology and the wisdom of the world's spiritual traditions. As the "forth force" in psychology (with the psychoanalytic, behaviourist and humanistic traditions) it is concerned with things both person and beyond (trans-) the personal. Transpersonal Psychology celebrates the individual's journey to wholeness; embracing what lies at the core of our life. It takes into account the journey of the personality and the journey of the soul.
